About
American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) was founded in 1978 and has more than 6,500 graduates. AUC's mission is to provide an excellent medical education to qualified students of diverse backgrounds. This is to be accomplished within an atmosphere of academic integrity and scholarship, which fosters the highest standards in professional ethics and competence.
A US-Modeled Doctor of Medicine Program
AUC provides a supportive learning environment, enabling its medical school students to learn the foundations of medicine according to the US medical school curriculum model. AUC students benefit from a close-knit community characterized by small class sizes, attentive and accessible faculty, and the comforts of home that allow students to focus on their studies. All of AUC’s clinical rotations are provided at ACGME-approved hospitals. This, along with our students’ performance on the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), bolsters their chances of obtaining a residency of their choosing.

The MD Program
The first five semesters at AUC involve a concentrated study of the medical sciences through AUC's US-modeled medical school curriculum. Anatomy, Histology and Molecular/Cell Biology are the focus during the first semester. Subsequent semesters explore a logical sequence of science coursework, including advanced courses in Molecular/Cell Biology, Physiology, Pathology, and Behavioral Sciences.
During the clinical portion of AUC's medical program, students perform as an active member of a team comprised of students, residents, and attending physicians. Under supervision, clinical students perform histories and physicals, evaluate laboratory data, analyze information to diagnose patient cases, and undertake limited procedures. Medical students complete their clinical training during semesters 6 through 9.5 over 72 weeks, undergoing clinical rotations at AUC's affiliated clinical sites in the United States and United Kingdom.
Each clinical site is staffed by a program director, faculty members and a medical education coordinator who work together to facilitate the learning experience for AUC students. Additionally, AUC’s Office of Clinical Student Services is available to assist students at any point during their clinical rotations.
