3 More Options for Caribbean Medical Schools

Like most universities, the fall is ‘open house’ and ‘university fairs’ season for Caribbean Medical Schools. If you’re planning to study medicine abroad, open houses are a great opportunity to research schools. You can talk to representatives from different schools, get a better feel for the school and have your questions answered directly. This is particularly helpful for those want to study medicine abroad because of the difficulty and cost of visiting each campus.

Of course, the more you learn about your options for Caribbean Medical Schools, the more chance you’ll have of finding the perfect one for you. We previously offered some insight into three Caribbean Medical Schools, and below we look into three more

1. St. James School of Medicine, St. Vincent & the Grenadines

About to celebrate its second decade of operations, the St. James School of Medicine is home to over 1,300 medical students. They enjoy being prepared for the USMLE, clinical rotation options in the U.S. and Canada, and the opportunity to practice in North America after they graduate.
Founded by educators and physicians from medical schools in the U.S. and Europe, the goal of St. James School of Medicine is to offer high-quality and affordable medical education and training.

2. International American University College of Medicine, St. Lucia

With a stated mission “to provide quality medical education to capable and highly motivated individuals who want to pursue a career in medicine”, the International American University has put together a state-of-the-art medical curriculum, backed with investments in the latest technology. The school is one of the only Caribbean Medical Schools to be a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU). It is also listed in the WDOMS and is recognized by the Medical Council of Canada and the Medical Council of India.

3. American University of St. Vincent, St. Vincent & the Grenadines

A relative newcomer among Caribbean Medical Schools, AUS has quickly gained an enviable reputation for the quality of its medical education. AUS is home to newer, innovative medical education methodologies. And the school’s efforts haven’t gone unnoticed. In its short history, AUS has been recognized by the Education Commission of Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), The World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS), the Medical Council of Canada (MCC), and it has clinical campuses in two Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) teaching hospitals in the U.S.

Of course, the Caribbean Medical School you choose for your studies is entirely up to you. But the more you inform your decision making, not only will you be more likely to find one that works for you, but also one that sets you up best for a career in medicine in your preferred location.
